District Celebrates National CyberSecurity Awareness Month with Student Trainings

The Riverside Community College District is celebrating National CyberSecurity Awareness Month with a series of workshops for students.
“The best defense against threat actors is an educated user,” Susanne Ma, director of IT, Infrastructure & Systems, said. “Cybersecurity affects our lives at work, college, and at home. We've all experienced phishing emails, smishing text messages, and other methods to trick you into action.”
This year, Riverside Community College District achieved a milestone with the development of an online cybersecurity training program for students — an expansion of the training offered to employees. Enrolled students received an email outlining three learning cybersecurity training opportunities. The training, which begins with Cybersecurity 101, begins on October 11, with two additional training exercises on October 18 (New Purchase, New Cyber Risk) and October 25 (Open Office Hour).
Students should check their student email account for information on how to attend.
“It's important that our students are not left vulnerable to the tactics of cyber criminals, and through advocacy from the Cybersecurity Advisory Sub-Committee, we're thrilled to see this milestone actualized,” Ma said.
