Over 230 Students and Their Families Attend Record-Breaking RCCD/UCR Housing Orientation

Riverside City College (RCC), in partnership with the Riverside Community College District (RCCD) and the University of California, Riverside (UCR), hosted a highly successful housing orientation on campus yesterday for Moreno Valley College, Norco College, and Riverside City College students. The event welcomed more than 230 students, along with their parents and extended family members, underscoring widespread enthusiasm for the new Transfer Student Success Residential Experience Program.

This innovative partnership brings community college students into modern, apartment-style residential buildings located at UCR’s North District 2. The development—part of a groundbreaking intersegmental housing initiative—offers a total of 320 beds designed to serve both RCCD and UCR students.

The orientation aimed to clearly explain housing expectations, outline next steps in the move‑in process, and provide critical information from UCR’s housing and campus life teams. In attendance were RCC, MVC, NC and UCR Housing staff, academic advisors, and student leaders who guided attendees through policies, programming options, roommate matching, dining plans, parking logistics, and campus amenities.

“Seeing over 230 students and their families take time to attend today’s orientation is a testament to our commitment to student success,” said interim Vice President Cruz‑Soto. “This partnership with RCCD and UCR not only ensures safe, affordable housing—but also immerses our students in the full university experience, forging connections and easing their transition.”

The impressive turnout at yesterday’s orientation highlights the strong demand for affordable, high‑quality housing opportunities. The joint RCCD–UCR residential community is a state‑funded model project, supported by $126 million in state grants and university funding, and is among the first of its kind in California.

“It’s amazing that RCC students get to live in a space like this. I’m grateful for the opportunity and can already tell this will make my college experience more connected and successful.”
Jordan a current RCC Student.

“I feel so much more prepared now. The orientation answered a lot of my questions about move-in, roommates, and campus life. I’m really excited to be part of this community.”
Natalie M., Incoming RCC Student.

RCC remains committed to supporting students through this transition by offering ongoing communication, individual assistance, and seamless access to both RCC and UCR resources—including libraries, dining, fitness facilities, and student engagement programming.
