Accessibility

Promoting Equal Access

The Riverside Community College District (RCCD) is required by federal law (the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 and Sections 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act) to provide access to its programs and services to all qualified individuals.

Digital Accessibility

Digital accessibility supports and reduces barriers for everyone. At RCCD, we prioritize digital accessibility and universal design to ensure opportunities and possibilities are available to everyone.

Just as accessibility laws prevent RCCD from designing buildings without wheelchair access, they similarly prevent RCCD from designing websites that deny access to persons who access the web through screen readers, cannot hear audio content, or are unable to use a mouse.

Request Accommodations

RCCD complies with all federal and state rules and regulations to provide reasonable accommodations for verified disabilities.

Web Accessibility

RCCD's website is designed, developed and maintained to be in compliance with California Government Code Sections 7405 and 11135, which requires such technologies to meet the accessibility requirements of Section 508 of the federal Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended (29 U.S.C. Sec. 794d), as well as the current Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) published by the Web Accessibility Initiative of the World Wide Web Consortium. We actively work to ensure all content on our website is accessible to everyone. Most content meets WCAG 2.2 at Level AA success criteria.

Current Laws, Regulations and Standards

Recommended Browsers

RCCD seeks to support present-day technical accessibility standards, such as ARIA 1.1, to ensure interactive web features work correctly with modern browsers and assistive technology. Because Internet Explorer (IE11) does not support these technical standards, we strongly recommend using another browser if you are using assistive technology. Recommended browser and screen reader combinations include:

  • Chrome Version 73 or later / JAWS 2019 (Windows)
  • Firefox 66 or later / NVDA 2019.1 (Windows)
  • iOS 13 (or later) / Safari with VoiceOver (Mobile)

PDFs and Documents

We are commited to providing alternative formats for all media. If you encounter a document or media on rccd.edu that is not readily accessible to those who use machine reading/alternative media technologies, contact the Webmaster
