Edison International Supports RCC STEM and MVC Fire Technology Programs with $50K Grant
02/18/2020
The Riverside City College STEM and Moreno Valley College Fire Technology programs each received a $25,000 grant from Edison International. The grant will support the 2020 RCC STEM Speaker Series and provide scholarships to students majoring in STEM-related fields. The STEM series is a priority of Gregory Anderson, Ed.D., president, RCC. The funding from Edison International will allow the College to host the speaker series for the second consecutive year. The 2020 RCC STEM Speaker Series will host three STEM speakers. The series is open to students, faculty and staff.
MVC's grant will support its Fire Technology Program located at the Ben Clark Training Center (BCTC). The Edison International grant will be used to acquire specialized equipment for the new live burn building at BCTC. This new facility is being established in collaboration with CALFIRE, and will enhance the fire training program by generating real-time burn scenarios for training purposes. Specifically, this grant will purchase four forcible entry doors to enable students to learn life-saving techniques in order to gain entry in emergency situations. These new forcible entry doors will replace the current use of 2X4s and provide for more realistic training scenarios.
Thank you, Edison International, for supporting our STEM and Fire Technology programs.
