Local Banks Support RCCD Economic Development Efforts

​The RCCD Office of Workforce & Economic Development has received financial support from local banks to augment its efforts in the community. These generous contributions from Bank of America, MUFG Union Bank, and Comerica Bank are being used to support services to small businesses. Services are focused on advancing the community's economic growth through training and services, focusing on job creation and development and community improvement.

 Contributions are intended for micro enterprises (less than 1O employees) and small businesses (less than 25 employees) with a focus on veteran-owned, minority- and women-owned businesses, as well as traditionally undeserved groups and areas within Riverside. To this end, the Economic Development Office is collaborating with the IE Latina Women's Business Association, Riverside Black Chamber of Commerce, Inland Empire Chamber of Commerce, Southern California Black Chamber of Commerce, and the Veteran's Chamber of Commerce to identify businesses who meet the criteria.

Unfortunately, there is a lack of technical assistance available for these businesses, particularly for those in the start-up and/or early stages of development. Additionally, many of the qualifying businesses face operational challenges. when they attempt to grow and expand. The Economic Development Office will work to provide training and support for business owners, who would not have access to mentorship services otherwise.

“The funding we received from our local banking partners has allowed us to assist Inland Empire residents who are often marginalized or disconnected from entrepreneurship resources and networks," Debra Mustain, interim executive director for Workforce & Economic Development, said. “Our services target aspiring and current business owners and provide them with useful information, networking opportunities, and access to free coaching and technical resources. I am grateful for this generous support for the important economic development efforts in our District."
