Potential Storm on First Day of Classes
08/19/2023
I hope this message finds you well and filled with anticipation for the upcoming semester at the colleges of the Riverside Community College District (RCCD). As we approach the start of this new academic term, I would like to address an important matter regarding the potential impact of an upcoming storm on the first day of classes.
According to the National Weather Service, as Hurricane Hilary approaches Baja California, it will generate significant storms in our area this weekend, and possibly into Monday morning. Travel on Monday may be restricted due to potential flooding and other hazardous conditions during this storm.
Any adjustments to class schedules or changes in campus operations due to the storm, will be communicated promptly through official channels, including RAVE guardian, CANVAS, email, RCCD homepage and college websites, and social media. Please stay vigilant and stay connected to these sources for the latest information.
While we are excited to welcome you back to our campuses and classrooms, we fully recognize that unexpected circumstances, such as adverse weather, can present challenges to attending classes in person. If you find it unsafe to travel to campus due to the storm, we kindly ask that you promptly notify your instructors about your absence.
Communication during a crisis is key, and your instructors are here to work with you and provide support during such situations. They will guide you on alternative arrangements for class participation, which may include sharing lecture materials, assigning online tasks, or recording lectures for you to access later.
Your instructors are understanding and committed to your success. They will ensure that you have the resources you need to continue your studies even if you are unable to be physically present in our classrooms because of this storm.
If you have any questions, concerns, or need assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to your instructors, advisors, or college administrators. We are here to help.
I want to thank you for your understanding and cooperation during this situation. We are looking forward to the new semester, and your safe arrival on campus. You are important to us, and we are excited to meet you and serve you as the new semester begins.
