RCC Receives 10K Renewal Grant from the Colburn Foundation
09/28/2022
The Riverside City College Music Department received a $10,000 renewal grant from the Colburn Foundation. The grant will support the 2022-23 Centennial Plaza Concert series. Due to the pandemic, the last two years proved difficult to provide live concerts, but with assistance from the Colburn Foundation the department was able to sponsor a combination of both live and virtual master classes and concerts for the 2021-22 season.
The master classes were performed by members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra and the Los Angeles Opera. This year's plans include a classical piano concerto, a presentation of the Brandenburg Concertos and a Beethoven Symphony.
The Colburn Foundation was established as an independent foundation in 1999, and was endowed by Richard D. Colburn who was a businessman and philanthropist. The foundation's mission is to promote a healthy and vibrant classical music community, primarily in Southern California, and to make grants to artistically excellent organizations for the performance and presentation of classical music, as well as for music education and the training of musicians.
