RCCD Team Strengthens Mental Health Initiatives at National Training
02/20/2025

A dedicated team of mental health practitioners and colleagues from across the Riverside Community College District (RCCD) came together at the National Association for Behavioral Intervention and Threat Assessment (NABITA) training conference, reinforcing their commitment to mental health and campus safety across the district. Their goal is to create a campus culture where all feel safe, supported, and empowered to seek help when they need it.
The intensive training focused on best practices for behavioral intervention teams, equipping participants with tools to identify students in distress, implement early intervention strategies, and create supportive pathways for mental health care. RCCD’s team engaged in in-depth discussions on risk assessment, case management, and proactive campus safety measures to enhance each of the colleges mental health programs.
“This training was an invaluable opportunity to collaborate with professionals nationwide and bring back strategies that will directly benefit our students,” said Mary Rankin, mental health supervisor, “By strengthening our intervention programs, we are ensuring that students feel supported both academically and personally.”
Throughout the conference, the RCCD team participated in various sessions and networking opportunities, including collaborative discussions with Norco College and Moreno Valley College colleagues. A highlight of the trip was a team dinner, where RCCD representatives connected with their district counterparts, reinforcing a collective commitment to mental health advocacy.
The event was documented with several photos, including a key group shot featuring mental health supervisors from all three RCCD campuses. Additional images captured training sessions and insights shared through the Whova app, the official conference platform.
As RCC continues to expand its mental health services, the knowledge gained from NABITA will play a vital role in shaping policies, outreach efforts, and campus-wide support systems.
