Past Study Abroad Programs
Tokyo, Japan - June 15 - July 27, 2024
RCCD is offering a six-week study abroad program to Japan during summer of 2024. Students can expect to take a business course (BUS 43) and experience a 4-week internship (BUS 200) with a Tokyo based company. Japan is rich in traditional culture and historical heritage where nature, history, and technology coexist in harmony. While you study abroad in Japan, you can learn more about its food, geography, politics, and history. Japan - the “Land of the Rising sun” - is an archipelago of more than 6,800 islands in the Pacific Ocean. The archipelago is located on a large volcanic zone - it has more than a hundred active volcanoes. About three quarters of the land of Japan is made of forests and mountains. This is the reason why Japan features a high population density and huge metropolises, most of which are situated on the coasts. Japan has four seasons, and you can enjoy its beautiful nature throughout the year.
Florence, Italy - September 6 - November 30, 2023
Students are spending the fall living and learning in the thriving city of Florence! RCCD offered a semester long study abroad program in Florence, Italy in fall 2023. Florence is a city in Central Italy and the capital city of the Tuscany region. Florence was a center of medieval European trade and finance and one of the wealthiest cities of that era. It is considered by many academics to have been the birthplace of the Renaissance, becoming a major artistic, cultural, commercial, political, economic and financial center. Seven hundred years of cultural and artistic blooming are tangible today in the 14th-century Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, the Church of Santa Croce, the Palazzo Vecchio, the Uffizi gallery, and the Palazzo Pitti. The city’s history is further evident in the artistic works of great masters such as Giotto, Brunelleschi, Botticelli and Michelangelo.
Belize - July 10 - 21, 2023
The country of Belize is home to incredible biodiversity. Its crystalline waters, swaying seagrass beds, and lush jungles offer critical habitat for bats, tropical birds, sea turtles, and a subspecies of endangered West Indian manatees. Beneath vibrant jungle canopies and along sparkling white sand beaches, life in Belize abounds. Students had the opportunity to explore and learn about these rich ecosystems firsthand on the Belize Marine Ecology program.
The program didn't have pre-requisites and was open to all RCCD major and non-major students.
Costa Rica - January 12 - 27, 2023
Costa Rica is a small country located in Central America. What it lacks in size it makes up for in breathtaking nature and friendly locals, who are more than happy to teach travelers the relaxed Caribbean way of “pura vida”, or pure life.
In Costa Rica, students immersed themselves in the stunning diverse ecosystem, which is comprised of a myriad of natural wonders, such as dense tropical forests, pristine sandy beaches, active volcanoes, and more. The abundant and exotic flora and fauna were ready to be discovered by students from all fields through extensive walking tours in some of the most famous national parks, wildlife reserves and biological stations.
During this 16-day program students had the opportunity to take part in various activities such as nature walks, tropical plant identification, bio forest and much more.
