Other Opportunities Abroad
There are many opportunities outside of Riverside Community College District for students
hoping to Study Abroad. Below is a non- comprehensive list of programs offered by
outside colleges and organizations. Please note that the RCCD Global Learning & Study
Abroad program is not directly affiliated with these programs. Please independently
research the cost, application process, and credit verification process to decide
what program best fits your goals.
California Community College System
The California Community College system is a great starting point for researching study abroad opportunities beyond the district. Typically, community college programs are less expensive than 4-year university programs while still offering high quality, faculty-led courses. An advantage of study abroad with another California community college is that credit will most likely articulate or transfer easily to your RCCD transcript.
Study Abroad Opportunties

- Southern California Foothills Consortium for Study Abroad (SCFC) (scroll for member colleges)
- Other SoCal CC Programs: LACC, LAVC, OCC, NOCCD, LBCC, SDCCD
Fellowships
Fellowship awards are competitive, merit-based funding opportunities that support educational or professional development. Many international education fellowships can fully cover or significantly defray the cost of studying abroad. Fellowships often have rigorous application processes and research requirements, and they offer exceptional opportunities for a highly structured study abroad experience.

Four-Year Universities
Most universities in the U.S. offer study abroad programs in some form. The UC and CSU systems, for example, offer robust credit-bearing programs around the world.

Transfer Opportunities
If you are planning to transfer to a four-year university, you might consider finishing your degree abroad. Transferring abroad is a long-term international education experience which involves extensive planning and preparation. There are dedicated organizations that help community college students apply for transfer to international universities. The transfer center at your home campus is another resource that can help you plan this path.
Transfer Information
- Transfer Abroad Network
- Transfer Centers: RCC, NC, MVC
Third-Party Organizations
Third-party study abroad providers offer another avenue for pursuing international education. These programs often contain a greater range of travel opportunities; however, they can be more costly than other options, and there is no guarantee that credit for courses will transfer to RCCD. Still, they offer incredible educational and experiential opportunities, and they are often associated with accredited universities abroad.
Program Organizations
- CIEE – Council on International Educational Exchange
- IES Abroad -- Institute for the International Education of Students
- IFSA - Institute for Study Abroad
International University Summer Programs
Many international universities offer short-term programs that are open to non- enrolled students. These programs often take place over Summer and Winter and are intensive and immersive in nature. The list below is not exhaustive. Feel free to contact us if you want a list of summer school programs at universities around the world. We do not endorse them, nor do we have specific relationships with them, but we can help direct you to reputable programs we have heard about.
